Established in 1964, ABRET is the credentialing board for Electroencephalographic (EEG), Evoked Potential (EP), Long Term Monitoring (LTM), Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring (NIOM) Technologists and Autonomic Testing (CAP) Professionals.
These technologists work mainly with neurologists, clinical neurophysiologists, neurosurgeons, and orthopedic surgeons to assess the functioning of the nervous system. They perform various types of neuro monitoring to evaluate nervous system disorders, and protect neuropathways at risk during surgery. Their credentials are required to be renewed every 5 years.
Neurodiagnostic technologists are employed by hospitals, clinics, medical offices, or independent companies. They may work in an outpatient setting, in the operating room, intensive care, in research or education.
