The Financial Planning Association (FPA®) is the membership organization for the financial planning community. Its members are dedicated to supporting the financial planning process in order to help people achieve their goals and dreams. FPA® believes that everyone needs objective advice to make smart financial decisions and that when seeking the advice of a financial planner, the planner should be a CFP™ professional.
FPA® members specialize in areas such as comprehensive financial planning, investment, cash management, estate planning, stocks and bonds, and retirement planning. In addition to Financial Planners, the professions FPA® members hold out to their clients includes accountant, attorneys, bankers, charitable giving specialists, insurance agents, stockbrokers, money managers, investment consultants, broker-dealer and corporate executives, and others who champion the financial planning process.
FPA® members are 68% male and pay $285 in annual dues primarily through the mail. Selections available include designation, specialty area, employee size, primary profession, years in business, and age. An FPA® member Survey reveals:
- 96% use personal computers in their work
- 75% use financial planning software
- 62% are sole proprietors
- 60% are Certified Financial Planner™ Certificants
- 60% are financial planning practitioners
- 30% hold a masters degree
